Gurgaon: The power department has started a helpline number where people can upload photos, videos and geo-tagged locations of damaged electricity poles, sagging or snapped power lines, exposed live wires, damaged transformers, electrified meter boxes or faulty earthing systems.Managing director of DHBVN and UHBVN, Vikram Singh, on Tuesday said safety remains the utilities’ priority and that preventing electrical accidents requires timely identification and rectification of potential hazards.People can flag electrical safety lapses on 9050960500, and the information will be immediately forwarded to the concerned field officials for prompt action. The move comes amid growing concerns over electrical safety during the monsoon, when waterlogging, strong winds and heavy rainfall often increase the risk of electrocution and damage to power infrastructure. “Involving citizens as the first line of reporting can significantly reduce response time and prevent avoidable accidents,” said the official.“Every executive engineer in DHBVN has been assigned the responsibility to ensure quicker monitoring and response. At the field level, sub-divisional officers, junior engineers, foremen, linemen and other line staff have been directed to carry out regular safety inspections across their respective jurisdictions,” Singh said.Officials will inspect every feeder, transformer and other electrical asset periodically to identify vulnerabilities before they lead to accidents. The utility has also instructed field teams to maintain GPS-based records of every identified defect and its rectification, enabling systematic monitoring of safety compliance.Singh directed officers to prioritise preventive maintenance and ensure that all identified risks are addressed without delay. He appealed to citizens not to ignore any visible electrical hazard, saying timely reporting could help prevent loss of life and property. The utility has also stepped up public awareness efforts by promoting electrical safety manuals and awareness videos available on its official website. Employees across both power distribution companies have been instructed to strictly follow prescribed safety protocols while carrying out maintenance and repair work.Consumers can also register electricity-related complaints through the toll-free helpline numbers 1912 and 1800-180-4334.
