Lucknow: The Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) proposal to simplify the mutation charges on transfer and sale of residential and commercial properties in the city will bring relief to the owners. The proposal will be placed in the LMC House meeting on Wednesday. At present, mutation fees are charged at higher flat rates – often around Rs 5,000 or up to 1% of the property value, especially in cases of ancestral property transfer. The system lacks clarity on whether the mutation charges of the property will be linked to its size or value. The new proposal recommends a simple slab-based system. In cases of property sale, charges will be based on the value of the property, while for ancestral transfer, the fee will be fixed according to property size, not more than Rs 5,000.Officials said the change will make the process more transparent, simple, reduce disputes and expedite work. The new proposal will also fix charges for private establishments such as hospitals, guest houses, restaurants and diagnostic centres to bring uniformity. So far, no charges were fixed for such properties.
