Mumbai: Lilavati Hospital has announced its plans to expand the brand internationally, starting with a super-speciality OPD facility in Almaty, Kazakhstan.
The initiative will bring Lilavati Hospital’s specialist consultations, second opinions, advanced treatment planning and medical expertise closer to patients in Central Asia, the speciality hospital said.
The centre, set to open in early September this year, will offer super-speciality services across oncology, liver and hepatobiliary, kidney transplantation, cardiac sciences, neurology and neurosurgery, IVF and reproductive medicine and more.
While complex cases requiring advanced treatment and surgery will be connected with Lilavati Hospital Mumbai, the hospital added.
Other details of the investment such as the nature of the partnership, and total capital expenditure were not disclosed. However, the hospital shared that no private equity investment was involved.
Dr Ravindra Karanjekar, CEO, Lilavati Hospital, informed that the healthcare brand is actively looking to expand the brand internationally, with Kazakhstan being the first step.
He added that they are in talks to expand in various other countries in Central Asia like Uzbekistan, Oman, Mauritius and Sri Lanka. This includes various forms of partnerships including brownfield, greenfield projects as well as partnerships with the local governments.
Domestically, the brand is expanding with a new 300-bed cancer care hospital in Ahmedabad, and new projects in Indore and New Delhi.
Further details of the projects were not disclosed. However, Lilavati plans to roll out all the above initiatives in the next two years, with a long-term goal of adding 3000 beds to its portfolio in the next five years, Karanjekar added.
On the timing of the expansion, Karanjekar said, “We wanted to stabilise ourselves first. Once we stabilised our business in India, we began looking at opportunities both within the country and overseas. International business can be challenging, but it is also a long-term opportunity. From that perspective, we are expanding in India as well as internationally.”
