Patna: A 25-year-old woman died after being struck by lightning at Ghangh Dih village under Bakhtiyarpur police station area of Patna district early on Monday. Her child was also injured and is undergoing treatment.The deceased, identified as Rani Devi, was sleeping on the rooftop with her family to escape the heat. According to her husband, Biku Kumar, the weather changed suddenly around 3.45am, with dark clouds gathering and frequent lightning.As rain seemed imminent, the family began moving downstairs. While Rani was bringing her children down, a lightning bolt struck, leaving her critically injured with severe burns. One of her children was also hurt.Family members alleged they tried to contact Dial 112 for emergency help but did not receive assistance. Villagers then rushed her to Athmalgola primary health centre. Considering her critical condition, doctors referred her to Barh sub-divisional hospital, where she was declared dead.Police completed necessary formalities and sent the body for post-mortem before handing it over to the family.Additional SHO of Bakhtiyarpur police station, Umashankar Mishra, said the woman and her child were struck by lightning. “The woman died at the hospital, while the infant sustained minor injuries and is undergoing treatment. Police received information about the incident at 6am,” he added.
