Begusarai: Four people were killed and 11 others seriously injured after two SUVs collided head-on near Angrezi Dhala on NH-31 under Singhaul police station in Begusarai district around 12.30am on Monday. Both vehicles were badly damaged in the high-speed collision.Three of the deceased — Risabh Kumar (24), Sunny Kumar (26) and Himanshu Kumar (22), all residents of Pokharia under Begusarai town police station — were travelling in the same SUV. The fourth victim, Raja Kumar, who was driving the other vehicle, died on the way to Patna while being shifted for better treatment. Raja, a resident of Khagaria district, worked as a driver in Bakhri.Rahul Kumar, a friend of the three deceased, said one of their friends had hosted a birthday party on Sunday evening. “After the party got over, all the friends decided to go to Simaria and take a splash in Ganga river. I insisted that I would drive the vehicle but others did not allow. I felt a bit disappointed over this and decided to return home. It was Sunny who was driving the vehicle. He used to work as a private driver in the local excise and prohibition department. There were altogether six persons in the vehicle,” he said.Himanshu’s brother Vivek Kumar said the family received information about the accident around 1am. “When I reached the spot, police with the help of locals had already taken my brother and others to a nearby hospital. However, three persons, including my brother, were declared brought dead. He said the vehicles collided because the other SUV was travelling on the wrong lane as it had lost its way. It was horrifying to see blood littered all over inside the two vehicles,” he said.Jyotish Kumar, who was travelling in the other SUV, said there were nine people in the vehicle returning from a wedding procession. “However, suddenly a collision took place and there was panic all around. Police with the help of locals took us to a nearby hospital. I am really fortunate that I did not sustain serious injury in the incident,” he said.SHO of Singhaul police station, Santosh Kumar Singh, said the accident appeared to have occurred after one of the vehicles entered the wrong lane. “The driver of the other vehicle also failed to spot it,” he said.
