Jamshedpur: Illuminated with colourful lights of different shades, the 119-year-old industrial city came alive on Monday, on the eve of Founder’s Day, with Jamshedpur all set to celebrate the 187th birth anniversary of Jamsetji Nusserwanji Tata (1839-1904).The top executives of the Tata group and residents will pay homage to its founder on March 3, when multiple activities are lined up.On the eve, about 40 different sites, including heritage buildings, iconic towers, clubs and schools, besides traffic islands and street medians, sprang to life as the designer lights lit up in the evening.Earlier, chairman of Tata Sons, N Chandrasekaran, inaugurated a grand illumination at Jubilee Park, which is the main attraction of the four-day lighting event.The captivating and awe-striking lights, which were designed and installed aesthetically, transformed the entire green lawns into a virtual fairytale.The illuminations adorning the mid-size trees and shrubs, fairy lights on the plants, multicoloured LED lights wrapping around tall trees, besides bollard lights on either side of the pathway, were appealing and inviting to the crowd.This year, the 18ft x 22ft portrait of Ratan Tata, which was crafted using over 10,000 fresh flowers by city-based artist Vivek Mishra, has become a talking point.Installed opposite JN Tata’s statue is a vivacious portrait of Ratan Tata, a revered philanthropist former chairman of Tata Sons.Besides, Sir Dorabji Tata Park, adjacent to the Jubilee Park, Postal Park in Bistupur, Centenary Park in Tinplate and Bhagwan Birsa Munda Park in Sakchi also drew enthusiasts with an engrossing illumination.The selfie-crazy crowd clicked pictures with family and friends, while motorists stopped momentarily and captured the beautiful lighting on their mobile cameras, causing traffic jams temporarily at several places.
