Kanpur: Light to moderate widespread rain on Saturday afternoon brought down the temperature and provided relief to the residents from the hot and sultry weather conditions. The temperature, which was recorded at 33.6°C in the afternoon, dipped to around 31°C in the evening. The maximum temperature was 0.5°C higher than Friday’s.However, the fall in temperature added to the woes of commuters as rainwater accumulated on roads and potholes and dug-up stretches made movement difficult. Commuters faced problems while travelling through several parts of the city during the afternoon and evening.Weather conditions changed around noon when clouds covered the sky, blocking the bright sunshine. Rain accompanied by thunderstorms began around 1 pm and continued intermittently till around 3 pm.According to CSA University weather expert SN Sunil Pandey, around 3 mm of rain was recorded in the city. Westerly winds blew at a speed of around 7.4 kmph. He said due to cloud movement, localized thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds and light rain or drizzle are likely to occur over the next three days. Humidity is also likely to remain high whenever sunshine appears.The India Meteorological Department (IMD), in its forecast issued at 10.40 am, had predicted a 65% to 70% chance of scattered thunderstorms during the afternoon. The weather is likely to remain clear in the evening and at night.
