Kanpur: The city witnessed widespread cloud cover and intermittent light showers from Sunday morning, bringing relief after days of intense heat and humidity.The overcast conditions and light rainfall led to a sharp drop of nearly 6°C in the maximum temperature. The maximum temperature was recorded at 30.4°C on Sunday, while the minimum settled at 26.6°C.Although humidity remained high at 84% and easterly winds continued to blow at a low speed, the cloudy skies and lower temperatures made the weather pleasant for residents.According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the southwest monsoon remains active over the Kanpur division, resulting in a slight decline in temperatures.The department has forecast generally cloudy skies accompanied by rain and thundershowers across the division over the next 24 hours.For Kanpur Nagar, the IMD has predicted rain accompanied by thunderstorms during the afternoon and night.The maximum temperature is expected to remain between 31°C and 34°C, while the minimum is likely to range between 26°C and 28°C.In Kanpur Dehat, the sky is expected to remain heavily overcast, with moderate to heavy rainfall likely at isolated places. The maximum temperature is forecast to be around 33°C, while the minimum may remain close to 27°C.Weather expert Dr S. N. Sunil Pandey of Chandra Shekhar Azad University of Agriculture and Technology (CSA) said the Kanpur division is expected to witness cloudy skies from July 20 to July 24.He said isolated areas may experience strong surface winds, light drizzles, and light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds. The likelihood of bright sunshine over the next three days is very low, he added.
