Chennai: Truck and bus maker Ashok Leyland has broken ground for a greenfield battery pack manufacturing facility at Pillaipakkam near Chennai. The project will entail an investment of Rs 400 crore to Rs 500 crore.The new facility represents a strategic step towards building a robust EV ecosystem and will help localise EV battery pack production, the company said in a statement. “Ashok Leyland, along with its subsidiary Switch Mobility, has already developed a wide range of electric commercial vehicles and has taken a leading position in the EV market. The groundbreaking of the new battery pack manufacturing facility marks an important step in our electric mobility journey,” said Dheeraj Hinduja, executive chairman of Ashok Leyland.
