Madikeri: With less rainfall in Kushalnagar town and surrounding places in Kodagu this season, still 33.35 feet is remaining to fill the dam for Harangi reservoir to reach its maximum level.Last year, during the same period, the Cauvery River flowing through Kushalnagara overflowed and exceeded the danger level, creating fear of flooding in the low-lying riverbank areas.Previous year, Harangi reservoir was filled, and excess water was released into the river. This time, only 273 cusecs of water are currently flowing into the dam, while 180 cusecs of water are being released into the river. The water level in the dam, which has a maximum level of 2,859 feet above sea level, is only 2,825.65 feet.According to the rain gauge records of the Kushalnagar Tourist Mandir, this time it has received only 204.2 mm of rain. The rainfall from Jan till date in Kodagu district is 289.65 mm. In Madikeri taluk, which is the catchment area of river Cauvery, this year to date recorded rainfall is 446.90 mm. Last year, it was 1,713.65 mm.
