Mandya: The Bachelor of Commerce (BCom) programme has emerged as the most sought-after undergraduate course among students in Mandya district this academic year, reflecting a growing preference for commerce education among students who recently cleared the II PU exams.Mandya district recorded a pass percentage of 88.9% in the 2026 Karnataka II PU exams, securing the 12th position in the state.According to Mandya University authorities, there has been a noticeable rise in admissions compared to the previous year, with BCom attracting the highest number of applicants. The trend indicates a growing inclination among students towards commerce and professional courses that offer diverse career opportunities in banking, finance, accounting, business management and entrepreneurship.Mandya University vice-chancellor prof K Shivachithappa told TOI that BCom has emerged as the most preferred course this year, followed by Bachelor of Computer Applications (BCA), Bachelor of Arts (BA) and Bachelor of Science (BSc).“Admissions are progressing well across all constituent colleges of the university. So far, 359 students have secured admission to BCom, while 172 students have enrolled in BCA. The numbers are expected to increase further as the admission process is still under way,” he said, adding: “The last date for admission is July 7, and we are optimistic of crossing the 1,200-student mark this year.”
