Coimbatore: A leopard killed a piglet and carried it away from Uliyampalayam village in Coimbatore district, early on Sunday morning. The wild cat had strayed out of a reserve forest and entered the Thondamuthur-Dhaliyur Road. The village is located at least 1km from the forest boundary. The leopard entered the residential area around 12:25am on Sunday and killed a piglet, while another one managed to escape. A stray dog chased the leopard, causing it to leave the area along with its prey. “Our frontline staff visited the spot and found the pug marks of the leopard. We have fixed two camera traps in the locality to monitor the movement of the leopard. Two teams have also deployed for the night,” a forest official said.Meanwhile, the incident was recorded on a CCTV camera, and the footage went viral on social media.
