Srinagar/Jammu, Feb 14: Leaders across Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday paid rich tributes to senior National Conference leader and former Cabinet Minister Qamar Ali Akhoon, whose Namaz-e-Janaza was held at his native village Sangrah, Sankoo in Kargil district.
As per a statement issued here, senior NC leader and Advisor to the Chief Minister Nasir Aslam Wani, accompanied by Provincial President Kashmir Showkat Mir, attended the funeral prayers and expressed condolences to the bereaved family.
Addressing mourners, Wani remembered Akhoon’s lifelong service, humility and unwavering commitment to the people of Kargil. He also recalled his significant contribution to governance and administration in Jammu and Kashmir. The leaders expressed solidarity with the family and prayed for eternal peace to the departed soul.
Later, Wani and Showkat Mir visited Qazigund and conveyed condolences to the bereaved family, including MLA Devsar Peerzada Feroz Ahmad, on the demise of Peerzada Ghulam Ahmad Shah. Describing him as a towering yet humble political figure closely connected to the people, Wani said his contribution as Forest Minister would be remembered for years. The leaders offered Fateha and prayed for strength to the family to bear the loss.
Meanwhile, Minister for Jal Shakti, Forest, Ecology & Environment and Tribal Affairs Javed Ahmed Rana also condoled the demise of Qamar Ali Akhoon, describing him as a dedicated public servant and seasoned politician who worked tirelessly for the welfare and upliftment of the people.
Rana conveyed heartfelt sympathies to the bereaved family and associates and prayed for eternal peace to the departed soul and fortitude for the family to endure the irreparable loss.
