Coordinated plan for sanitation & crowd management at mosques, shrines

Srinagar, Feb 14: With the holy month of Ramadan few days away, the Jammu and Kashmir Waqf Board on Friday initiated extensive preparations across Kashmir, as its Chairperson Dr Syed Darakhshan Andrabi chaired a high-level administrative meeting at the Board’s Central Office in Srinagar.

A statement issued here said that the meeting, convened by Executive Magistrate of the Board Ishtiyaq Mohiuddin, was attended by senior administrative officers from across the Kashmir division along with imams and ulema from various districts, aiming to ensure coordinated planning for the month-long congregational prayers and religious activities.

Officials held detailed deliberations on logistical arrangements, infrastructure readiness at mosques and shrines, sanitation measures, rush management and other essential public services. A comprehensive roadmap and action plan was finalised to streamline functioning among different units and departments of the Board.

Addressing the gathering, Dr Andrabi stressed the need to provide “fool-proof facilities” to worshippers during Ramadan. She said public expectations from the Waqf Board had increased over the past three years and called for renewed dedication and efficiency from officials.

“Waqf Board has maintained the trust of the people, and we must rededicate ourselves with greater enterprise to meet their expectations,” she said, adding that teamwork and inter-departmental coordination would be key to smooth management. She directed administrators to work closely with government departments providing civic services and evolve a coordinated mechanism to address public requirements effectively.

Highlighting the spiritual dimension of the month, Andrabi also urged imams and khateebs to promote piety, peace and social harmony through their sermons and help strengthen the religious and moral atmosphere during Ramadan. The Board expects the arrangements to ensure better facilities and smoother management at major shrines and mosques across the Valley during one of the most significant periods of the Islamic calendar.
