Jaipur: A late-night collision between a trailer and an oxygen tanker on Jaipur’s Ring Road triggered a gas leak and a chain-reaction crash that brought traffic to a halt on the Ajmer–Tonk–Agra route. The incident occurred around 10:30 pm Sunday near the Shivdaspura police station area. Police said the trailer rammed into the oxygen tanker, causing it to overturn and leak medical oxygen, which blanketed the road in a thick fog-like layer, sharply reducing visibility. Minutes later, a chemical tanker approaching from behind crashed into a dumper ahead, adding to the pile-up. The stretch was completely blocked for traffic heading from Ajmer towards Jaipur. Police said the oxygen tanker was transporting medical-grade oxygen to a private hospital in the city. “The gas leak drastically lowered visibility. Fortunately, no major fire occurred,” they said. Six fire engines and a civil defence team were dispatched to the site. After nearly 30 minutes of effort, police rescued the trailer driver, who was trapped inside the crushed cabin, and sent him to a hospital. The damaged vehicles were cleared by midnight, and traffic was gradually restored. Police launched an inquiry into the cause of the crash and are checking whether proper safety protocols were followed during the oxygen transport.
