Panchkula: Haryana labour minister Anil Vij Monday said the office of the deputy labour commissioner (DLC), currently functioning in Panchkula, will be shifted to the SDM office complex in Ambala Cantonment. Chief minister Nayab Singh Saini has approved the proposal.Vij said the decision was taken to make labour department services more accessible to workers, industries and the general public.He said a large number of industrial units are operating in the Saha Industrial Area, the Science Industry Area of Ambala Cantonment and other parts of Ambala district. Thousands of workers employed in these units currently have to travel to Panchkula for labour-related grievances and official work, resulting in inconvenience and additional expenditure of time and money.The minister said the jurisdiction of the DLC, Panchkula, covers the offices of assistant labour commissioners in Ambala, Kurukshetra, Yamunanagar and Panchkula districts. Among these, Ambala is more centrally located and is better connected to all four districts, making it a more convenient location for workers and industrial establishments.According to Vij, shifting the office to Ambala Cantonment will improve access to services, facilitate faster disposal of labour disputes, ensure more effective implementation of labour laws and enhance transparency in departmental functioning.He added that the move would particularly benefit workers and industries in Ambala district, who will no longer need to travel to Panchkula for labour-related matters.Vij clarified that the DLC office is already a govt-sanctioned establishment and that its relocation will neither require the creation of new posts nor impose any additional financial burden on the state govt.
