Panaji: The Kadamba Transport Corporation (KTC) has raised concerns over a sharp increase in diesel prices at a designated fuel station, calling the hike “unfair” even as it assured that bus services across Goa will continue without disruption. KTC chairman Ulhas Tuenkar said on Thursday that the corporation has been forced to change its refuelling strategy after its designated petrol pump increased diesel prices specifically for KTC buses.“The petrol pump where KTC buses usually refuel earlier charged us the same rate as other outlets across Goa. However, they have now increased the price to Rs 110 per litre,” Tuenkar said. In contrast, he said that private bus operators are still being charged Rs 88.2 per litre at the same facility. “The Rs 22 hike is unfair,” he added.As a result, KTC has begun refuelling its buses at alternative petrol pumps offering standard rates. Despite the logistical adjustment, the corporation asserted that there has been no impact on public transport services. “Our objective is to serve the people, and therefore we will not suspend any services. Our buses are operating at regular timings,” Tuenkar said.The development comes amid a surge in fuel demand across Goa, driven by panic buying following rumours of a shortage. However, officials and industry bodies have reiterated that there is no actual fuel scarcity, and supply chains remain stable.Tuenkar acknowledged the rush at petrol pumps but maintained that KTC’s operations remain unaffected for now. “There is a rush as people are panic buying fuel, but we have confirmation that there is no shortage,” he said.
