Porvorim: The Kadamba Transport Corporation (KTC) incurred financial losses in 2025 due to frequent accidents and vehicle breakdowns, with repair costs close to Rs 18.9 lakh, according to records. This was the highest loss recorded in the past five years, transport minister Mauvin Godinho said on Monday while replying to an unstarred question by leader of opposition Yuri Alemao in the assembly.Several incidents involving breakdowns, collisions and mechanical failures led to recurring repair expenses. The costs ranged from minor repairs of a few thousand rupees to major damages exceeding Rs 1 lakh in some cases.Official records show that the corporation incurred total repair and damage costs of Rs 93.8 lakh between 2021 and 2025.In 2024 and 2025, the number of recorded incidents increased, resulting in higher cumulative repair costs compared to 2023. In particular, Dec 2025 recorded the highest single repair cost of that year at Rs 3.93 lakh.Records also show that the unusually high loss in 2022 was largely due to a major accident involving a vehicle on Oct 28, 2022, with an estimated repair cost of Rs 52.4 lakh. The vehicle has not yet been repaired.Godinho also said KTC plans to replace buses by procuring 60 semi-luxury diesel buses, 10 semi-luxury buses, three deluxe buses and two semi-deluxe buses.
