Mysuru: Karnataka State Open University vice-chancellor Sharanappa V Halse on Friday urged students to make the most of their student years to build their careers and acquire essential life skills, describing this phase as the most crucial in shaping their futures. Students can excel in any field, he said, if they remain focused on their dreams and goals.He was speaking after inaugurating Sathgamaya–2026, a multi-genre intercollegiate fest organised at Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham in the city.Halse said student life is often referred to as the “golden period,” as it is a time to build one’s personality through quality education, consistent practice, and meaningful experiences. He stressed the importance of using time judiciously, urging students to avoid distractions and instead invest their efforts in learning, skill development, and personal growth.Citing the example of former President APJ Abdul Kalam, who delivered newspapers during his childhood before rising to the highest office in the country, he encouraged students to draw inspiration from such leaders to pursue their goals with determination.He also emphasised the need for cultivating moral values and social responsibility to help build a peaceful and prosperous nation. Advising students to regulate excessive mobile phone use, he urged them to channel their time and energy productively.A series of competitions was held as part of the two-day multi-genre fest. The Overall Championship was won by St Joseph’s First Grade College, Jayalakshmipuram, Mysuru.
