T’puram: Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) Ltd gave conditional approval to utilise two land parcels leased from the forest department near the Idukki hydel reservoir for setting up a public crematorium and a miniature model of the Moolamattom power house.The full board meeting of KSEB decided to approve the Arakkulam grama panchayat’s request for permission to use 20 cents of land near KSEB’s workshop at Moolamattom for the construction of a crematorium. The decision to give permission to construct a public crematorium was taken following discussions between water resources minister Roshy Augustine, power minister K Krishnankutty and the officials concerned.Similarly, 1.5 acres of forest land under the custody of KSEB would be handed over to Kerala Hydel Tourism Centre for the construction of a miniature of the Moolamattom power house. The land is situated adjacent to Tazvaram Colony. During the site visit on Oct 3, 2025, Augustine requested KSEB to provide necessary technical assistance for the proposed project.The permissive sanction for the above projects is subject to certain conditions. The sanction shall be purely permissive in nature and shall not confer any ownership or permanent right over the land to Arakkulam grama panchayat or KHTC. All required statutory approvals, including prior permission from the forest department and other competent authorities, shall be obtained by the implementing agency at their own cost and responsibility before commencement of any work.All works shall comply with applicable electrical safety, environmental and disaster management norms. The construction and operation shall not affect the safety and functioning of KSEB installations and power generation activities at Moolamattom. Also, KSEB shall have the absolute right to revoke the permissive sanction, wholly or partly, at any time, without assigning reasons, if required for operational, safety, legal, or public interest reasons.On revocation or discontinuation of the projects, the land shall be restored to its original condition at the cost of the panchayat/KHTC, as directed by KSEB or the forest department.
