Mandya: With the Krishnaraja Sagara (KRS) Reservoir receiving far below-normal inflows due to deficient rainfall in its catchment area, the Karnataka Government has announced that the remaining water in the reservoir will be reserved exclusively for drinking water purposes and has appealed to farmers not to cultivate crops dependent on KRS water during the current season.According to Raghuraman K, member secretary, Irrigation advisory committee and superintending engineer, Cauvery Neeravari Nigam Limited (CNNL), the KRS catchment received significantly less than the customary rainfall between June 1 and July 22, 2026, resulting in a sharp decline in inflows. As of now, only 12.916 tmc of water is available in the reservoir for drinking water requirements.
