Koraput: Widespread rainfall under the influence of the prevailing low-pressure system lashed Koraput district over the past 24 hours, bringing an average of 101.26 mm of rain till 8 am on Sunday.Despite the intense spell across most parts of the district, no untoward incident, flooding or rain-related casualty was reported, officials said.According to data released by the district emergency operation centre, Borigumma recorded the highest rainfall at 142.2 mm, while Bandhugaon received the lowest at 31 mm. “The district has received widespread rainfall due to the current low-pressure system. We are closely monitoring the situation and, as of now, no untoward incident, flooding or rain-related casualty has been reported from any part of the district,” said Swaranjita Majhi, district emergency officer, Koraput.Majhi said the heavy rain briefly disrupted traffic on a few rural roads after roadside trees were uprooted. However, fire services personnel promptly cleared the fallen trees, restoring vehicular movement within a short time.With more rain forecast over the next few days, the district administration has kept field-level officers and emergency response teams on alert, particularly in low-lying and landslide-prone areas. “The district emergency operation centre is maintaining round-the-clock surveillance, and all necessary precautionary measures are in place. People have been advised to remain vigilant and avoid crossing swollen streams or entering waterlogged areas,” Majhi said.
