Bhubaneswar: Deputy commissioner of police (DCP) Jagmohan Meena has submitted his resignation to the state govt, citing personal reasons, official sources confirmed on Sunday. If accepted by the govt, the 37‑year‑old IPS officer may move to the private sector.A senior govt official told TOI on condition of anonymity: “We received his resignation recently. The govt is examining it. It has not yet been accepted.”Meena, a 2013‑batch officer, declined to comment when reached out by TOI.Sources indicated Meena is exploring opportunities in the private sector, with speculation that he may join a company owned by a close relative in Rajasthan. An SP‑rank officer, Meena earlier served as the superintendent of police (SP) in Angul and Ganjam districts, and DCP in Cuttack urban police district, before being appointed the Bhubaneswar DCP on Feb 28, 2025.His decision comes at a sensitive time for the commissionerate police, which has faced widespread criticism over the recent daylight lynching of railway constable Soumya Ranjan Swain at Balianta on the city’s outskirts. Chief minister Mohan Charan Majhi recently expressed displeasure over the police’s alleged inept handling of the mob violence.Meena’s sudden resignation plan has surprised his colleagues. “We do not know the reason, but his decision seems sudden and has come as a shock for many in the police fraternity,” said a staff member at his office.
