KOLKATA: A 24-year-old woman, six months pregnant, was allegedly murdered by her husband in Sodepur, with her body wrapped in plastic and hidden under a bed, sparking shock in the area.Police recovered the body on Wednesday evening and arrested three persons, including the husband.According to the complaint, the victim, Puja Mondal, was allegedly killed after she refused to meet her husband’s monetary demands. The accused, Rishi Harichand, allegedly strangled her with a piece of cloth and hid the body beneath the bed to destroy evidence.The incident took place in Lenin Nagar near Peyarabagan under Ghola Police Station.Local sources said Puja had been married to Harichand, a private firm employee, for about two years. Her family alleged that she faced repeated harassment over money from her husband and in-laws ever since the marriage.Despite her pregnancy, the harassment allegedly continued. On Wednesday morning, an argument reportedly broke out after she refused to give money, following which she was allegedly killed.When Puja’s family could not reach her, they went to her in-laws’ house on Wednesday afternoon. Unable to find her, they alerted police, who later recovered the body wrapped in plastic from under a bed.The husband, mother-in-law and another family member have been arrested. Police said a murder case has been registered and the exact cause of death will be confirmed after the post-mortem.
