Kolkata: Trinamool on Wednesday lodged a complaint with the Election Commission against former party national vice-president Dilip Ghosh, alleging that he threatened Trinamool netas, workers and the public. The party said Ghosh, referring to the recent incident at state minister Shashi Panja’s residence, made remarks that could incite violence. On Monday, he had said that if an attack could take place at Panja’s home, similar incidents could occur in Kalighat or at the residence of Madan Mitra. In its complaint, Trinamool alleged that Ghosh’s comments were intended to provoke unrest in the Kalighat and Chetla areas and create fear among residents. It urged the poll panel to issue a show-cause notice to him for violating the model code of conduct and to direct the registration of an FIR. The party also sought additional security at Panja’s residence and in the Kalighat and Chetla areas. In a separate complaint, Trinamool alleged that a “misleading video” was circulated through the BJP’s official handle. The party claimed the video used selectively edited and truncated clips of speeches by chief minister Mamata Banerjee and Kolkata mayor Firhad Hakim, presented out of context and demanded its removal.
