HYDERABAD: Analysis of CCTV footage in a suspected road accident death in Kodad town on June 30 has revealed that the victim was allegedly killed after being kicked by a drunken man with whom he had an exchange of words at a local bar shortly before the incident.The deceased was identified as Yakub Pasha (30), a labourer from Naya Nagar in Kodad. The accused, P Mahesh (23), is also a labourer and a resident of Srirangapuram in Kodad. At 9 pm on June 30, Mahesh, who was consuming liquor at a bar near Khammam X Roads in Kodad, picked up an argument with three local men, Ramesh, Rama Rao and Khader, who were seated at the same table. During the altercation, Mahesh and Rama Rao assaulted each other.Around the same time, Yakub entered the bar. “He saw Mahesh being roughed up by Rama Rao, Ramesh and Khader. Yakub tried to pacify the trio and stop them from assaulting Mahesh, following which he sent the latter away from the bar,” Kodad Town CI K Shiva Shankar said. A short while later, when Yakub stepped out of the bar, he noticed Mahesh wandering nearby in a highly intoxicated state and tried to avoid him.“In his drunken condition, Mahesh assumed that Yakub was part of the other group and kicked him as he tried to move away. Yakub fell onto the road and was run over by an oncoming truck. He later died while undergoing treatment at a local hospital,” the inspector said.Police initially registered a road accident case under Section 106 (1) of the BNS. However, after examining the CCTV footage, they established Mahesh’s role in the incident. “We have altered the case to murder.The accused is yet to be arrested,” the inspector said.
