Kolkata: KMC reached the final stage of distributing cheques to Dhapa farmers for acquiring 73 hectares of land that will be used for setting up a sanitary landfill facility. Besides, the KMC solid waste dept will set up several recycling plants to turn the city’s waste into wealth.An official said KMC solid waste management department needed Rs 55 crore to pay compensation to the farmers for the acquisition of land where a new landfill site will be constructed to take the load off the existing dumping site at Dhapa. tnn
