Kanpur: The working committee of Kanpur Municipal Corporation (KMC) on Saturday put its seal on the mutation fee. Now, from March 1 this year, citizens have to pay only Rs 6,500 as the mutation fee.The complete process took around 63 days, and finally the working committee cleared the proposal in favour of citizens. As per KMC rules, so far citizens paid 1% of the total value based on the DM’s circle rate.According to KMC officials, the House cleared the proposal at its meeting held on December 26, 2025. As per the procedure, citizens were asked to furnish their objections, if any, within 45 days. Only two people filed objections, and prayed that the fee and fine for EWS houses should be reduced. The officials redressed both objections and fixed a common fee for all. The fine too should be imposed at a lower rate. As soon as the proposal on the mutation fee was passed, the mayor directed the officials to implement it from March 1, 2026.KMC has charged 1% of the property’s total value on the basis of the DM’s circle rate since 2018. MLC Arun Pathak placed a proposal before the urban development minister AK Sharma to reduce the mutation fee, as it was too high. If a property’s value is Rs 50 lakhs, the property owner has to pay Rs 50,000 as the mutation fee.The state govt later notified that the mutation fee should be uniform. According to the new arrangement, if the property value is more than Rs 50 lakh, then the mutation fee would be Rs 10,000, which would be the maximum.During the meeting, the mayor asked the officials to execute development plans up to Rs 20 lakh in each corporator’s ward and, for that, tenders should be floated at the earliest. As many as 25 proposals were made by the corporators to change the names of crossings or roads. The mayor asked the officials to conduct the survey and consider them.KMC also decided to organise a Holi Mela after the festival of Holi. The tentative dates were floated as March 14 and 15.
