Kanpur: The famous Ganga Mela of Kanpur will be held on March 10, marking the culmination of Holi festivities in the city. The traditional Rango Ka Thela procession will begin at 9.45am from Rajjan Babu Park and return there in the afternoon after passing through several localities.Addressing mediapersons, Kanpur Hatia Holi Mela Mahotsava Committee patron Mool Chandra Seth said Holika Dahan will take place on the intervening night of March 2 and 3. As a lunar eclipse falls on March 3, colours will not be played that day and Holi will instead be celebrated on March 4. Committee president Gyanendra Bishnoi and general secretary Vinay Singh were present.The committee members said, according to tradition, Ganga Mela is observed about a week after Holi when Anuradha Nakshatra prevails, which this year falls on March 10. The ceremonial procession will be flagged off by the DM and police commissioner. District authorities will first pay floral tributes at the revolutionaries’ memorial inscription before the procession begins.
