Berhampur: Memories of the country’s freedom struggle have been brought to life through the canvas, as Government College of Art and Crafts, Khallikote in Ganjam district exhibited the paintings of its students at a three-day exhibition that started on Saturday on the occasion of Independence Day.A total of 61 paintings on the concept of Swaraj-2026 have been painted by the students in a workshop-cum-exhibition organised by the authorities. Eminent sculptor Adwaita Prasad Gadanayak inaugurated the exhibition, praising the students for their creativity and artistic vision.The students of all six departments created the paintings on the canvases with acrylic colour during a five-day workshop from Aug 10 to 15. The paintings on the themes of Mahatma Gandhi’s Satyagraha, Civil Disobedience Movement, Quit India Movement, the day after Independence, some leaders of the movement and many more were showcased in the exhibition.Principal Devi Prasad Dash said, “Art has played an important role in reflecting the spirit of a nation. Through this workshop-cum-exhibition, our students have been encouraged to explore the idea of Independence through their own creative vision, experiences and artistic expressions.” “We are happy as several people visit the college gallery to exhibit the paintings,” said Asish Mohapatra, a fourth-year student.
