Koraput: Since its formation on June 1, Rayagada division of East Coast Railway has made progress in operations, safety, passenger services, revenue generation and infrastructure development, emerging as an important railway division in southern Odisha, officials said.In July, its commercial revenue stood at Rs 378.87 crore, including Rs 8.53 crore from passenger earnings and Rs 370.34 crore from freight. Cumulative freight earnings touched Rs 1,676.69 crore, while originating freight loading up to July stood at 13.72 million tonnes against a target of 13.68 million tonnes. Divisional railway manager Amitabh Singhal said the achievements reflected the commitment and teamwork of the railway workforce. Rayagada division has begun its journey with renewed enthusiasm, dedication and team spirit.Enforcement drives against unauthorised elements resulted in 1,338 cases and fines of Rs 5.62 lakh. Four narcotics cases led to the seizure of 34.232 kg of ganja valued at around Rs 8.11 lakh. Thirteen minor boys were rescued, while passengers’ belongings worth Rs 5.57 lakh were restored under Operation Amanat. The Meri Saheli initiative assisted 10,180 women travelling alone. Ticket-checking drives detected 5,403 cases and realised Rs 38.41 lakh.Infrastructure development has gained momentum, with completion of non-interlocking work for doubling of the Kamlur-Bhansi and Baiguda-Kakiriguma sections. One manned level crossing was closed and four Limited Height Subways opened. New foot overbridges were constructed at Araku, Jagdalpur, Jeypore and Kakiriguma, while Jimmidipeta, Ladda and Singaram stations were made Divyang-friendly, Singhal said.Railway Board approved a Rs 22.5-crore divisional railway hospital at Rayagada. The laboratory at Rayagada medical unit is scheduled to become operational from Aug 17, while a 24×7 ambulance facility and tie-ups with private hospitals and diagnostic centres are in process. “We are confident that the division will continue to build on these early achievements and play a significant role in strengthening railway connectivity and development in the region,” Singhal said.
