Food safety officials inspected a KFC outlet in Mangaluru after a customer reported spoiled chicken.

MANGALURU: Food safety officials conducted a surprise inspection at a KFC outlet in Mangaluru after a customer complained of receiving spoiled, foul-smelling chicken ordered online.The inspection was carried out at the KFC outlet at City Centre on KS Rao Road following the complaint. Officials checked the kitchen, storeroom and cold storage areas during the raid.The food safety department sealed the outlet’s godown during the inspection. Food samples were also collected and sent to a laboratory for testing.Officials said further action will be taken based on the laboratory report.The raid comes amid increased scrutiny of food businesses over hygiene and food safety violations.In Maharashtra, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has recently taken action against several food establishments and quick-commerce outlets after inspections found lapses in hygiene, storage and food safety practices.The Maharashtra FDA has also been carrying out inspections of major food chains, including KFC, McDonald’s, Starbucks, Pizza Hut, Subway and Burger King, as part of its food safety crackdown.Officials have stressed the need for food businesses to comply with food safety norms covering hygiene, storage, handling and sale of food products.
