Patna: The city’s important road infrastructure project connecting Karbigahiya and Mithapur flyovers has entered its final phase, with one of the crucial corridors expected to open to traffic by Aug 15. The remaining link, which will complete the corridor’s connectivity towards Karbigahiya end of Patna Junction and Chiraiyatand flyover, is targeted to be completed by March next year. The ramp carrying traffic from Mithapur to the Karbigahiya elevated roundabout has been structurally completed, and only finishing touches remain. Officials of the Bihar Rajya Pul Nirman Nigam Limited (BRPNNL) said the final surface work is underway and the elevated stretch is likely to be opened next month.Construction of the second ramp, which will allow vehicles to descend from the Karbigahiya elevated roundabout towards Mithapur, has reached around 70% completion. Officials said installation of two slabs is in progress, following which finishing work will begin. Around 30% of the work remains, with the entire section expected to be completed by next year.During an inspection last month, road construction department secretary Pankaj Kumar Pal directed officials to complete the pending construction work by July.An engineer associated with the project said the elevated corridor will allow both side traffic movement between the old Mithapur bus stand and the GPO flyover without descending at ground level. “The two-lane stretch is around 1.5km. Residents of Kankarbagh heading towards the Secretariat, R-Block or nearby govt offices will be able to travel entirely on the elevated corridor without encountering traffic signals or congestion,” the engineer said.He added that once the remaining 300-350 metre stretch is completed, vehicles will also get a direct elevated connection to the Chiraiyatand flyover near Karbigahiya end of Patna Junction. “Those heading towards the Patna Junction will have a separate lane that descends near the station, while through traffic towards GPO and the Secretariat will continue on the elevated route,” he said. The official further said the corridor will also integrate with the recently completed Mithapur-Mahuli elevated project, creating a continuous network of flyovers that will improve traffic movement across central Patna.Constructed at a cost of Rs292.74 crore, the 1.8-km elevated corridor will connect R-Block, GPO, Mithapur roundabout, Patna Junction and Kankarbagh. Around 1.5 km of the corridor is set to become operational in the first phase, while the remaining stretch is expected to be completed by March 2027.The project is expected to significantly improve connectivity for commuters travelling from Vidhan Sabha, Secretariat, Beerchand Patel Path and Budh Marg towards the education hub near the old Mithapur bus stand. Similarly, vehicles coming from the bypass side through Mithapur will gain direct access to Kankarbagh, GPO and other parts of the city via the elevated network.Officials said the corridor will also help ease congestion around the busy Karbigahiya roundabout by separating local traffic, ensuring smoother movement towards Patna Junction and Chiraiyatand flyover.
