Patna: A 21-year-old woman was found dead under mysterious circumstances in Patna’s Dhanarua police station area on Sunday. Her family alleged that she was beaten to death by her in-laws for dowry. Upon receiving information at 11am, police reached the spot, took possession of the body and started an investigation. A forensic team was also called to the spot.According to police, the woman’s husband and her in-laws were absconding after the incident.The deceased was identified as Pooja Kumari, wife of Ravi Ranjan Kumar, a resident of Gulariya Dih village under Dhanarua police station area. They got married about two years ago but had no children.Family members of the deceased alleged that Pooja was assaulted and murdered. Police said injury marks were found on her body.SDPO (Masaurhi-II) Kanhaiya Singh said the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team was called to examine the spot and carry out an inspection. “Police are recording the statement of the deceased’s mother and are registering a case based on her complaint. Further legal action is being taken, and the investigation is underway,” he said.The SDPO told TOI that there was a strangulation mark on the woman’s neck, multiple injury marks on her face, and her hand bore recent burn marks. “Prima facie, it appears that she died due to strangulation. However, the actual cause of death will be known from the medical report. The body has been sent for postmortem to ascertain the exact cause of death,” Singh added.
