THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The legal metrology department, along with the civil supplies and food safety departments, conducted joint inspections at multiplex theatres across Kerala on Thursday following complaints of exorbitant food prices.The inspections were carried out in various districts to check whether food prices were displayed properly, customers received the correct quantity and the food served was of proper quality, news agency PTI reported.Officials detected 25 violations during the inspections, including discrepancies in the weight of food products, poor quality of food served and failure to display correct prices.At one multiplex theatre, officials shut down a food counter after finding that it was operating without a proper licence.A total fine of Rs 62,000 was imposed for various violations detected during the inspections, PTI reported.The inspections, which began last week, will continue, officials informed.Department officials said they regularly receive complaints that food products are sold at exorbitant prices in multiplex theatres, either above the maximum retail price or the price displayed at the outlet.(With agency inputs)
