Mangaluru: Ahead of the cabinet meeting to be held in the city on Sept 18, the Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) has urged chief minister DK Shivakumar to intervene in a series of long-pending industrial and infrastructure issues in Dakshina Kannada. KCCI president PB Ahmed Mudassar sought the expediting of the proposed acquisition of 1,050 acres in the two districts for the development of facilities aimed at supporting micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs). The chamber said the delay had affected businesses planning to establish operations in the region, and could prompt industries to move to other districts or states.KCCI also sought the repossession and exclusive reallocation of around 400 acres of JESCO land and 50 acres of KISCO land, which it said had remained unused for more than 30 years. KCCI urged that the land be reallocated exclusively to MSMEs.Highlighting the infrastructure deficiencies at the Baikampady Industrial Area, the chamber called for the construction of an underground drainage system, underground power cabling and urgent repairs to roads, including the ODC road. It said the proposed Rs 50 crore water treatment plant by the Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board (KIADB) would not be effective without a proper drainage network.
