Varanasi: Kashi is gearing up for a spectacular IAF air show, with the city bracing for a massive turnout of nearly 30 lakh people and police commissioner Mohit Agarwal directing officials to draw up a detailed crowd management plan for the event.The air show is scheduled to be held in Varanasi on Oct 22, 23 and 25. Kashi is set to look skyward as the Indian Air Force’s Central Air Command recently announced the date for its much-awaited aerial display at Namo Ghat. Against the timeless backdrop of the Ganga, the IAF Aerial Display 2026 will bring the spectacle of precision flying, professional skill and seamless teamwork to the city’s skies.The event will showcase the distinguished six-decade journey of Central Air Command. Since its formation, the Command and its formations have made significant contributions to combat operations, humanitarian assistance, disaster relief and aid to civil authorities across a vast and operationally demanding area.Agarwal on Thursday inspected Namo Ghat, Rajghat and Bhaisasur Ghat to review arrangements ahead of the event. During the visit, he assessed ground conditions, public movement routes, entry and exit points, crowd-sensitive areas, parking facilities and traffic management plans.Reviewing parking arrangements near Namo Ghat, he instructed officials to ensure proper use of designated parking spaces and prevent haphazard parking that could obstruct traffic and pedestrian movement.He directed officials to identify barricading points, holding areas, alternative routes and traffic diversion plans in advance, keeping in mind the heavy crowd pressure expected during the air show.Agarwal also instructed officials to maintain continuous surveillance through CCTV cameras, drones and other technical resources. Additional police force will be deployed at sensitive locations, while security arrangements across the ghats will be strengthened.In view of the possibility of heavy crowding, he asked officials to organise emergency routes, quick-response systems, queue management arrangements and emergency exits. He also directed officials to prepare a safe and swift evacuation plan for any emergency situation.Agarwal said all arrangements must be reviewed again before the event. He also directed officials to conduct mock drills to identify and address shortcomings within the stipulated time and stressed close coordination between police and other departments for the smooth conduct of the air show.
