15-year-old SSLC student, Sanketh, was fatally assaulted in Shivamogga

SHIVAMOGGA: In a shocking incident at Urgadur, Shivamogga, a 15-year-old SSLC student named Sanketh was killed following a clash with a group of minors on Monday around 8pm. The victim, son of a local driver named Kumar, was reportedly returning from special classes at a government high school near the 14th cross when the tragedy unfolded.According to police, the incident took place around 8 PM in an open field behind the school premises. Preliminary investigations suggest that a dispute broke out among a group of students, some of whom were reportedly high school dropouts. While initial local reports hinted at a row over a cricket match, Superintendent of Police (SP) B. Nikhil clarified that Sanketh was allegedly attacked while attempting to intervene and settle a fight between other boys. During the physical altercation, the accused—belonging to another community—reportedly dealt a forceful blow to Sanketh’s chest. The teenager collapsed on the spot and was rushed to a private hospital, but he was declared brought dead, the IPS officer stated.The incident has sparked tension in the area, prompting a heavy police deployment led by SP and DYSP Sanjeev Kumar, and other senior officials to maintain law and order.The SP has met with the grieving family after incident, assuring them of a thorough investigation and confirming that two minors have already been taken into custody. While the case has begun to take on a political hue, with local MLA S.N. Channabasappa blaming police failure for the rise in crime, authorities maintain that the situation is currently under control. A case has been registered at the Tunga Nagar Police Station as the investigation continues to determine the exact motive behind the fatal assault.
