People throng Mysuru Rail Museum, as part o the Museum Day celebrations

Mysuru: The International Museum Day witnessed an overwhelming response at the renowned Mysuru Rail Museum, on Monday, as thousands of visitors thronged the heritage site to explore the rich legacy of Indian Railways.Organised under the theme ‘Museums for Bridging Divides,’ the event highlighted the vital role of museums in connecting people, preserving heritage and promoting cultural understanding across generations. The museum was crowded throughout the day, with children, families, tourists, railway enthusiasts and heritage lovers making use of the free entry offered on the occasion.Established in 1979 and managed by SWR, the Mysuru rail museum occupies a special place in India’s railway heritage as one of the country’s earliest regional railway museums and the second railway museum after National Rail Museum.Visitors explored the museum’s prized exhibits, including vintage steam locomotives, royal coaches, inspection cars, telecommunication equipment, antique railway artefacts and the famous Maharani’s saloon coach. Galleries showcasing the evolution and technological advancement of Indian Railways drew special attention from visitors.
