Bengaluru: In its attempt to generate more employable graduates, the department of higher education has decided to hold a summit where industry leaders and academics will meet to discuss the issue. Called Campus2Career, the event will discuss policy changes required to create new education models that enhance employment opportunities.“The initiative aims to equip students in govt colleges and universities with globally relevant and industry-required skills,” said higher education minister MC Sudhakar.The two-day summit is scheduled to be held on May 15-16. “The summit will bring together leading industrial organisations, academic experts, and the govt on a common platform to deliberate and develop education models that enhance employment opportunities for students in the state. It will focus on integrating industry-required skills into academic curricula and preparing students with practical exposure and technological competence,” he said.The minister noted that change is inevitable, and aligning the education system with new concepts and industry needs will play a crucial role in addressing unemployment among students.BOX:New state education policy“The state govt is likely to take a decision regarding the new state education policy in the upcoming cabinet meeting. The education system in higher education has already been aligned with the proposed policy. Discussions are ongoing to ensure the maintenance of academic excellence, and some ministers are currently reviewing the draft policy, which has led to a delay. A cabinet decision on the state education policy is expected soon,” said the minister.Karnataka state open university rowResponding to a question regarding a recent event held at KSOU that turned controversial, minister clarified that although the govt imposed restrictions, the programme was conducted following directions from the high court. He reiterated that the govt will soon permit other state universities to offer distance education.
