Kanpur: A 21-year-old woman from Barra in Kanpur, who was sold for Rs 3 lakh, was recovered from Sikar in Rajasthan, police said. The accused, who had bought the woman and married her, was arrested.DCP South Deependra Nath Chaudhary said that the accused had forcibly married the woman on April 30. Police teams were searching for those involved in the crime.The woman’s mother told police that her 21-year-old daughter worked in a factory. On April 21, she went to Khatu Shyam temple with her childhood friend and her husband. When her daughter did not return for several days, the woman contacted her friend and her husband. The two initially kept putting her off, saying they would return soon, said police.Later, when the friend threatened her and told her that her daughter was sold for Rs 3 lakh. After this her mobile phone was switched off. The mother then approached Barra police.During the investigation, police traced the last known location of the woman’s friend to Rajasthan. On Sunday night, Barra police left for Rajasthan with the woman’s family members. The police arrested the accused, a labourer and resident of Fatehpur Sadar in Sikar, and recovered the woman.DCP South Deependra Nath Chaudhary said that the woman’s friend and her husband had sold the woman after threatening to kill her. The two took her to Rajasthan and sold her for Rs 3 lakh to the accused, said the police. Police said documents were prepared under a false name for the marriage.
