Kanpur: Residents of Kanpur got relief from the heat on Thursday as the maximum temperature dropped to 29 degrees Celsius following morning rain, dense cloud cover and gusty winds ranging between 5.9 kmph and 31.3 kmph in daytime. The weather turned more pleasant in the evening when intermittent light drizzle further brought down the temperature across the city. Weather expert Dr S Sunil Pandey and the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted more rainfall during the night along with strong winds blowing at speeds of 40 to 70 kmph. Early Thursday morning, the sky remained overcast while light to moderate rainfall occurred across the Kanpur division. The observatory at CSA University recorded 2.6 mm rainfall at 4:10 am, while the city received an average rainfall of 1.5 mm. According to the forecast issued by the IMD, weather conditions in Kanpur division on Friday are expected to remain pleasant with mild sunshine and passing clouds. Due to high humidity levels, temperatures are likely to stay below normal. Dr Pandey said that from the evening of May 7 through the night and morning of May 8, there is a possibility of strong winds accompanied by light drizzle or showers, dust storms and isolated hailstorms, depending on the availability of moisture in the atmosphere. He further stated that temperatures in the coming days would remain normal or below normal and there was no possibility of a heat wave. However, due to prevailing moisture in the atmosphere, rain, lightning and high-speed winds may occur during evening and night hours. Advising caution, Dr Pandey urged citizens to avoid venturing outdoors during the night in case of strong winds and adverse weather conditions.
