Ahmedabad: A 27-year-old man from Danilimda has been arrested with seized mephedrone or MD drug worth over Rs 14 lakh during a raid conducted by the city crime branch on Tuesday evening.Acting on a tip-off, police raided a rented flat in Al-Falah Apartment near Barrel Market in Danilimda and allegedly caught Noman Sheikh selling narcotics.During the search, officials recovered 468.6g of mephedrone valued at Rs 14.1 lakh, six mobile phones, a weighing scale and cash. The total seizure was valued at Rs 14.6 lakh.Police said the forensic examination has confirmed that the seized substance is mephedrone. The accused allegedly confessed to procuring the drugs from a Rajasthan-based supplier and selling them in Danilimda and nearby areas. An investigation is underway under the NDPS Act.This crackdown marks another significant blow to the local narcotics network that has been funneling synthetic stimulants into the city’s industrial heartland. By tracing the supply chain back to Rajasthan, investigators hope to dismantle the broader distribution ring that targets vulnerable youth. The arrest highlights the intensifying vigilance of the crime branch as they struggle to curb the rising influence of “MD” across urban neighborhoods, where small-scale peddlers often operate out of nondescript residential pockets to evade detection.
