KANPUR: A 47-year-old man died at a private hospital late Monday, two days after he was allegedly beaten with bricks and stones by four drunken youths for objecting to one of them urinating on the roadside near Om Chauraha in Kakadeo.Police identified the deceased as Amit Kumar, who was returning from his shop in Naveen Nagar at around 11pm on Saturday when he came across four youths drinking near Om Chauraha.According to police, one of the youths allegedly began urinating on the roadside. When Kumar objected, the youth started abusing him, following which the four allegedly surrounded and assaulted him.The youths allegedly repeatedly struck Kumar on the head with bricks and stones, leaving him seriously injured. CCTV footage from the area reportedly captured the assault, with passersby seen trying to rescue Kumar before the attackers fled.Police reached the spot after receiving information and rushed Kumar to a hospital. His family later shifted him to a private hospital, from where he was referred to another facility as his condition worsened. He died late Monday night.Family members gathered at the post-mortem house and demanded the immediate arrest of the four accused. They also alleged police negligence, claiming that no arrests had been made despite CCTV footage of the incident being available.Deputy commissioner of police (Central) Atul Srivastava said Kumar was initially brought to hospital in an injured condition on September 5, with the injuries reported as resulting from an accident. After his death, police examined CCTV footage and carried out local inquiries, which revealed that Kumar had allegedly been assaulted following an altercation.A case has been registered at Kakadeo police station under relevant sections, and four police teams have been formed to trace the accused. Police said efforts were underway to arrest them.
