times News NetworkKanpur: Preparations for the launch of metro services from Kanpur Central to Naubasta have now entered their final phase. On Sunday, during the second day of a three-day inspection conducted by Metro Rail Safety Commissioner (CMRS) Nilabhra Sengupta and his five-member team, several significant technical tests were performed on the new corridor. In the most critical collision test, two metro trains were positioned face-to-face on a single track to evaluate the automatic braking system. Upon reaching the specified distance, both trains halted automatically without any driver intervention. With this successful test, the final integrated testing of Corridor-1 has been concluded.The inspection commenced at Naveen Market station. From there, the CMRS team traveled to Naubasta station via metro train. Subsequently, the team utilized a motor trolley to thoroughly examine the up-line track from Naubasta to Kanpur Central.A high-speed trial in automatic mode was also carried out on the metro, which is equipped with the CBTC (Communication Based Train Control) signalling system. The train was operated at the maximum allowed speed of 80 kilometres per hour to assess the effectiveness of the emergency braking system. Additionally, the coordination of signalling, power supply, and telecom systems was successfully verified throughout the entire 23.50-kilometre-long corridor from IIT to Naubasta. All attention is now focused on the final report from the CMRS. Upon receipt of this report, the Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) may issue a formal announcement regarding the commencement of passenger services from Kanpur Central to Naubasta.UPMRC Managing Director Sushil Kumar said, “The path to provide passengers with fast, safe, and seamless metro service from IIT to Naubasta has almost been cleared.”
