Kannauj: A doctor from Kannauj was taken into custody for questioning after a woman died in an alleged illegal kidney transplant procedure. Police said they obtained an audio recording linked to the case mentioning a woman who underwent a kidney transplant at Medilife Hospital in Dec. After the procedure, her condition worsened and she was rushed to Max Hospital in Delhi, where she died.According to DCP West S M Qasim Abidi, the recording featured a conversation between an ambulance driver, Shivam and Navin Pandey, from Prayagraj, both of whom had been associated with the Kannauj doctor. The driver said the woman they took to Delhi was admitted to Max Hospital in Dwarka and later died, while Pandey said she should have been transported by ambulance instead of an SUV and questioned what medical equipment was available in the vehicle.Police said the woman mentioned in the audio underwent kidney transplant operation at Medilife Hospital in Dec, after which her health deteriorated, after which she was taken to Max Hospital in Delhi, where she died.A police team visited Navin Pandey’s residence in Prayagraj on Saturday evening, but he was not there. Police summoned Shivam’s wife to Rawatpur police station for questioning and she said Pandey had been working with Dr Rohit from Ghaziabad for past about five years, while Shivam had been associated with Dr Rohit for only a year.Police planned to request Shivam’s remand by filing an application in the district court on Monday. According to police, the recording was to Dec 2025.On Saturday, police detained Dr Rohan from Kannauj for questioning regarding the woman’s death. Two other hospital partners, Dr Narendra from Auraiya and Dr Sandeep from Kannauj, are absconding, said police.
