Bicholim: A pond in the precincts of Goddess Kalika Sansthan, Kasarpal, has been revived and transformed into a mini lake, providing much-needed relief to the temple authorities amid recurring water shortages, particularly during major religious festivities.Bhagyashree Bhushan Salkar, assistant engineer of water resources department (WRD), Mulgao division, initiated the work after she was apprised of the bad state of the pond and difficulties faced by temple authorities.Salkar was instrumental in getting funds sanctioned for the restoration work. The temple witnesses a large turnout of devotees during the Navratri festival, besides the monthly palanquin procession and other celebrations. The temple authorities also face water scarcity during the 10-day Gudi Padwa celebrations.Salkar said the initiative was part of a broader effort to find a permanent solution to the water shortage faced by the temple.A member of the temple management said they are happy that govt resolved the issue once and for all. “Now, we will not have to worry during big events,” he said.
