Srinagar, Sep 22: The Jammu and Kashmir government on Tuesday said the twin recruitment agencies – Jammu & Kashmir Services Selection Board (JKSSB) and Jammu & Kashmir Public Service Commission (JKPSC) – have filled over 13,800 posts since 2024-25 till mid-2026.
A total of 13, 808 posts have been filled by the two recruitment agencies, with JKSSB making 11,465 selections during the calendar years 2024 and 2025 and up to June 2026, while the JKPSC has filled 2,343 posts during 2024-25, 2025-26 and up to April 2026.
The figures were provided by the government in response to a starred question regarding vacant posts raised by MLA Balwant Singh Mankotia during the sixth session of the J&K Legislative Assembly.
According to the department-wise data, JKSSB made 5,653 selections in 2024, 761 in 2025 and 5,051 selections between January 1 and June 30, 2026, taking the total to 11,465.
The Home Department accounted for the highest number of JKSSB selections in the first half of 2026, with 4,020 selections. It was followed by the Jal Shakti Department with 398, the Power Development Department with 292, Public Works (R&B) Department with 150 and Animal & Sheep Husbandry Department with 52 selections.
During 2024, the Rural Development Department accounted for 1,395 selections, followed by Public Works (R&B) with 1,045, Finance with 1,053 and Agriculture/Animal & Sheep Husbandry with 376 selections.
However, the JKPSC data showed that 721 posts were filled during 2024-25, 1,152 during 2025-26 and 470 from April 1, 2026 till date, taking the total to 2,343.
The Health and Medical Education accounted for the largest share of JKPSC recruitments, with 454 posts filled in 2024-25, 487 in 2025-26 and 14 up to April 2026. School Education had 147 posts filled during 2025-26 and 443 during the period beginning April 1, 2026.
The government said recruitment against government posts is undertaken in accordance with the applicable recruitment rules, reservation requirements, identification and referral of vacancies, with the selection process conducted by the competent recruiting agencies.
It said recruitment had continued during 2025-26, with JKSSB issuing multiple advertisements and making selections against various posts, while JKPSC had also processed posts referred by departments for recruitment.
On measures to address unemployment, the government said it was implementing schemes including Mission YUVA to promote entrepreneurship, self-employment and skill development among youth.
As of August 31, 2026, Mission YUVA had received 1,00,407 applications, of which 36,077 had been sanctioned and 32,156 disbursed by banks, involving credit disbursement of ₹1,769 crore. A further 7,755 youth had benefited under the MUMKIN, Tejaswini and Spurring Entrepreneurship Innovative (SEI) schemes since inception.
The government said the filling of eligible vacancies was an ongoing process and vacancies found fit for direct recruitment were being referred to the concerned recruiting agencies in accordance with applicable rules and procedures.
