A woman in Jhalawar has given birth to an unusual set of quadruplets, and all four infants have been admitted to the NICU.

Kota: A 25-year-old woman from Jhalawar gave birth to quadruplets — three girls and a boy — at the Govt Women’s Hospital attached to SRG Hospital and Jhalawar Medical College Wednesday evening, in what doctors described as an extremely rare delivery. The mother, Jyoti Kashyap, wife of Arun Kashyap and a resident of Jhalawar city, is stable and recovering well, hospital authorities said. Jyoti is already the mother of a 5-year-old son.All four newborns were born with low birth weight and have been admitted to the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), where they are under constant medical supervision.Dr Rajendra Gupta, a paediatric specialist at the hospital, said quadruplet births are rare and occur in about one in 24,000 deliveries. He said this was the first such case he saw at Jhalawar Govt Women’s Hospital.Doctors reviewed the condition of the mother and babies Thursday morning. Dr Gupta said the mother and the newborns were stable, though the babies continued to require specialised care because of their low birth weight.Later, Dr Vishal Nagar of the hospital said the condition of one of the four newborns improved slightly by Thursday morning, while the other three remained serious in the NICU.Hospital authorities said a team of specialists was monitoring the infants and providing intensive neonatal care. Doctors said the next few days would be crucial for the premature, low-birth-weight babies.Expressing happiness over the births, the babies’ father, Arun Kashyap, said it was “God’s will”.“I was expecting only one daughter, but God has blessed me with three daughters and a son. Whatever He has given us is a matter of happiness,” he said.News of the rare birth spread quickly across Jhalawar, with relatives and well-wishers reaching the hospital to congratulate the family.Pic of Jyoti with husband and son attached here
