Shillong: CM Conrad K Sangma has noted that Japan has been a ‘steadfast development partner’ of Meghalaya with the collaboration being not just about infrastructure but also about people, as he elaborated on the legacy of this partnership at the 6th India-Japan Intellectual Conclave held in Shillong on Feb 26.Outlining the collaborations between Japan and Meghalaya for the youth empowerment, he said 47 nurses from the state are placed in Japan. Highlighting that 74% of Meghalaya’s population is under 35, he proposed the establishment of a Meghalaya–Japan Skill Corridor. “The youthful energy of Meghalaya can be paired with Japan’s technological mastery,” he said.“Following my visit to Japan in April 2025, we signed an MoU with ASEAN One Co. to train and place 500 youths this year, scaling to 5,000 over the next five years,” he said. He added the state has tied up with NAVIS HR for placing Meghalaya’s skilled resources in Japan.
